I lived in one house for 41 years. Yep, just one. The truth is, I probably would still live there if my wonderful, sweet Hass wouldn’t have waltzed into my life; my chivalrous Prince Charming riding in and swooping me up into his Green Tundra. Gotta love that man ❤

We called our little house “The House that Pelkey Built”. Pelkey being my dad. He built it from the ground up with his own two hands. Granted some things were a little cattywhompas, for instance the swag lighting being grounded to the chains from which they hung. I’m not an electrician, but as I understand it, that could have caused some slight issues…such as burning the shack to the ground. I’m sure the Pioneers didn’t have electricians and they built their homes just fine. Of course, they didn’t have electricity either. Moving on…

There was a Strawberry field across the road from my little house. It’s still there. Some of the  most fun we had as kids was picking those berries. I enjoyed the berry picking almost as much as I enjoyed running barefoot through the super large sprinklers they had in the field across from the berries. It was like our own private water park! And man those strawberries made a sweet snack.

On Saturday mornings Mama would always ask me to go pick a basket and bring them home. I KNEW what that meant and I would run as fast as two little legs would carry me. That request meant mama was making a strawberry cobbler 🙂 🙂 🙂 One just like this!

Directions:

Place strawberries in a bowl and cover with one cup of sugar. Allow to sit about 30 minutes to create a light syrup. Preheat the oven to 375. Place butter in a 13×9 baking dish and let melt in the oven. In a separate bowl combine remaining sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Add Half & Half and vanilla and stir just to moisten dry ingredients. Pour batter over the melted butter. DO NOT STIR. Pour the berries and syrup over the batter. DO NOT STIR. Bake at 375 for about 45 minutes or until golden brown. This is GREAT served with Vanilla ice cream.
