Streets and town squares aren’t just for window shopping anymore! How AMAZING is this scene???
Last Saturday was my first experience at the Marietta Square Farmer’s Market. I was in Seventh Heaven! Home baked breads, fresh cut flowers, handmade soaps, arts & crafts, fresh eggs, incredible seafood, and any fruit or vegetable your heart’s desired. I could live there. Really.
The first thing I did was load an ENTIRE, and I mean HUGE basket I brought with fresh fruits and vegetables. I was at Allen’s Farm Fresh Market all of ten minutes and had to go back to the car to unload! We bought tomatoes, patty pan squash, cucumbers, cauliflower, potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, corn, beans, okra, lettuce, OhhhMyGracious! Talk about some beautiful, fresh produce. If there would have been a stove, I would have been cooking on the spot! It was all I could do to keep from taking a huge bite out of that red, juicy tomato. THIS was my haul!
Now if THAT wasn’t enough, I found the bread man. Yes. The bread man. No words. Just none.
I bought a FANTASTIC loaf of cinnamon raisin and a hearty black olive ciabatta. The ciabatta was gone before we got home. Not really, but oh so close! That was partly due to the homemade mozzarella cheese I also located. Ok! OK! …AND the smokey blue wedge….with some of this fabulous salami from Pine Street Market!
Since I did manage to save SOME of the cheese, I thought it would pair just LOVELY with a nice Cabernet and this fresh pasta. I couldn’t decide which pasta I wanted more, so I left with a roasted beet and goat cheese, and a four cheese blend. All it needed, by recommendation, was a little butter and sage, and THAT was dinner!
Just when I thought I was safe, the gates of heaven opened and the angels sang. Tamales. Straight from the basket… tamales compliments of Red Cactus Cafe Tamales and Empanadas. Again, attempting any decision was futile so we opted for two of the Chorizo and two of the Chicken Jalapeno. They were so good and so filling, we could only eat one each for dinner, so we used the two remaining tamales for the Tamale Nachos!
Finally, as my journey was coming to an end, I came across one last delight. Beautiful fresh caught shrimp from Tom’s Awesome Seafood…and AWESOME it is! So awesome in fact, I have an order to pick up this Saturday for scallops, Black Grouper, Scottish Salmon and Jumbo Lump Crab. I can not wait! Hass is going to be one happy, happy boy!
What a great Saturday morning! If I turn up MIA this coming Saturday morning, it won’t take much guesswork to find me! So… are you ready to go shopping?
Its all making me so hungry girl!!
