Some days call for a big, fat, juicy steak. Nothing else will do. I’ve said for years a nice filet or juicy ribeye with a loaded baked potato, classic wedge salad and a great Cabernet would be my perfect last meal. But why wait?

It seems authentic steakhouses are a rare breed. When I think of a classic steakhouse, I think back to the days of the rat pack where music was jazzy and sultry, cocktails were all handcrafted and steak? Well, steak was food for the Gods.  Just when you think steakhouses of this caliber are dead and gone, you find a gem.

Enter Maya.

In short… They. Do. Steak.

(Maya was) opened by Chef and restaurateur Mimmo Alboumeh of Red Pepper Taquería and Coldbrews Oyster Bar and Grill.  Named after his youngest daughter, the menu at MAYA boasts an array of creative American steak and seafood dishes with Alboumeh’s signature Spanish flair.

With a relaxed atmosphere and classic steakhouse feel, MAYA also features a curated wine list with over 40 wines by the glass and original cuts of meat from renowned meat purveyor, Braveheart Black Angus Beef.

Our experience began with an amazing craft cocktail and smile. The hospitality can’t be beat. Maya General Manager, Bryan Harned, decided to get in on the action creating a stellar Horse’s Neck with a Kick! It was perfect for a summer evening and beautifully crafted.

If wine is your passion, Maya has an excellent selection featuring over 40 wines by the glass.

Maya is a gorgeous, very warm and inviting restaurant. This would be the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or wedding. It’s equally as perfect for a great date night at a classic steakhouse.

Our dining experience began with a fantastic assortment of fresh baked breads and two luscious appetizers. We enjoyed the Grilled Blue Point Oysters topped with spinach and Manchego along with the Prime Beef Carpaccio dressed with capers, Manchego and white truffle cream. To be honest, if this was my meal for the entire night, I would have been a happy girl. I’m a truffle junkie and the white truffle cream was spot on.

Shortly following came a delightful Baby Spinach Salad featuring local pecans, valdeón crumbles and pickled grapes drizzled with an M’ vinaigrette. My dinner guest prefers not to consume red meat, and she was in heaven with this deliciously fresh and flavorful salad. The salad was also served with chilled forks which earned an astronomical amount of brownie points. Incredible attention to detail was paid to every dish served.20160707_184300_resized

…and with this perfectly cooked Chilean Sea Bass served with baby spinach in an exquisite lobster broth. This dish was stellar.

I of course, hold a proud seat at the top of the food chain and this filet was absolutely to die for. A fabulous 35-day center cut filet grilled to utter and complete perfection. I cut this steak with a fork and it melted in your mouth like butter. I have to give the best bite of the week to this filet.

Although the sea bass and the filet get top billing, the sides selected for us were heavenly. We completely enjoyed their house made cream corn and white truffle mac n cheese. Again, they had me at truffle.

With no room left to spare, we made room when we were served this for dessert; a classic creme brulee with vanilla custard and topped with fresh berries.

Our Final Thoughts

Maya definitely won our hearts and taste buds, and has brought back the appeal and flavors of an authentic steakhouse. Holding true to fashion, the ambiance, staff, cocktails, dishes and especially that perfect filet were stellar. If you’re having one of those days where nothing else will do but the perfect steak, I’d suggest a visit to Maya.

They. Do. Steak.
