Here in the South we have tons of traditions. Especially traditions that come along with Fall and the beginning of football season. One of the biggest is boiled p-nuts! You cannot watch football or tailgate without at least one bag of these little jewels. It is a cardinal sin we shalt not commit.

You. Must. Have. Them.

Keeping it short and sweet today ya’ll. Just like this recipe 🙂

Original Boiled Peanuts

  • 3 pounds green peanuts
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups salt

Place salt and peanuts in a large stock pot and cover with water. Boil for about 3 hours or until peanuts are soft. Resist the urge to add more salt as the peanuts will become saltier the longer they are allowed to sit in the salted water. When peanuts are done, drain immediately. I like to bag them in quart size freezer bags and freeze some for later. To reheat just put in a pot of water, NO SALT, and reheat until thawed.

Cajun Boiled Peanuts

  • 2 pounds green peanuts
  • 2 packages Crab Boil or Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tbsp. Cajun Seasoning
  • 1 container red pepper flakes

Use same directions as shown above, placing all ingredients in the pot.

Mesquite Boiled Peanuts

  • 2 pounds green peanuts
  • 1 container mesquite seasoning
  • 3 tbsp. liquid smoke – mesquite or hickory
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup seasoned salt

Use same directions as shown above, placing all ingredients in the pot.

Crockpot Peanuts

You can prepare any of the above recipes in a large crockpot. Add all ingredients and cover with water. Allow to cook on low for 24 hours.
